6% Airtime Tax !!

Refer back to my previous post : Airtime Tax ~ What the hell..

According to The Star today, it has been confirmed that beginning on 15 September 2011 onwards, telcos would start charging 6% service tax on each prepaid reload or a purchase of a new starter pack.

With this new ruling, consumers would be heavily effected as each RM 1.00 reload into phone, telcos would charge RM 0.06. If reload RM 10.00, hence RM 0.60 would charge on consumers and consumers have to fork out RM 10.60.

Strictly disagree on this new ruling. I wonder are consumers able to fight back on this new ruling by MCMC. This would be similarly to Goods and Services Tax (GST) whereas we are inevitable to pay for the tax although we are against on it.

Facebook 3.5 updates

Facebook has updated on its iOS app to version 3.5.

As everyone is still waiting for the release of the official Facebook for iPad app, the latest version has yet to support on iPad and is seriously disappoint a lot of iPad fans.

However, with this new version, iPhone and iPod touch would enjoy :

- Made it easier to share with who you want
- Added the ability to tag friends and places in posts
- Added the ability to share external links from a web view
- Added new design for Profile and Group Walls
- Improved the sharing tool to add privacy controls on posts and match your settings on the web site

Improvement and bugs :

- Improved Notifications speed
- Fixed a number of Chat bugs
- Made it easier to select filters in News Feed
- Fixed a bug with the Notifications bar disappearing
- Fixed a number of Photos bugs
- Improved performance and stability overall

Facebook removed iPad support in their latest app update. It’s not possible for FaceForward to enable something that’s no longer in the app.

Big disappointment!

Internet is back!

I have been experiencing two and a half days without an internet..!

It was a worse for me as I can't even play an internet for the past two days. It started on Thursday when my router's DSL LED didn't light. I thought there was a something wrong with my wiring. However, at the same time, my house phone was also couldn't use. There was no sound from my house phone when I picked up the phone.

I couldn't lodge any complaint to TM (Telekom Malaysia) on Thursday as on that day, they were still in holiday. In the end, I had to wait until Friday to lodge the complaint in the TM office. Dialed to 100 and informed them my problem and they replied by saying there was a cable problem infected my house area and the technicians were currently working on that matter.

Hence, I waited until after 5.00pm on Friday and still the problem wasn't solve. Luckily by 11.00 am on Saturday, the technicians solved this cable problem and now I can use my internet.!

Google Malaysia Marks Merdeka Raya

If you happen to login to Google.com.my on today, you would see a special Google logo marks the celebration of Merdeka Raya (Independence Day and Hari Raya concurrent celebration)

It is great to see Google Malaysia did such initiative on its logo to its web.

Well done Google Malaysia!

Legal "Roulette" In Taiping

Today, I went to the Taiping's Fun Fair which is located in the open square nearby the Bomba Taiping or Taiping Lake Garden Food Court.

It was a small scale's fun fair but was full with a lot of type of "luck" games. One of it was a similarity to the roulette in the casino.

What need to be done is to place a token on the number of your preference. (up to 20 tokens at one time)

Then the person would use the ping pong ball to ask any customer to roll the ball into the tube and the ball would roll down on a number.

The lucky number that has the number on it would win 9 tokens on a single bet for individual number. While double numbers bet would win 5 tokens.

Although the way of playing this game is similar to roulette and shall be considered as illegal without a license. But I think this "roulette" is consider as legal since I see a lot of people playing this game irregardless of age or race.

Selamat Hari Raya & Independence Day

I wish all my Muslim friends, Selamat Hari Raya & wish all Malaysians, happy 54th Independence Day.

Although we all are busy celebrating Hari Raya festive, we shall not forget on our Independence Day as well.

Enjoy your holidays!

Facebook on Skype

Skype updated with two new features of Facebook instant message (chat) and Facebook news feed within the Skype.

Newsfeed features
- See your Facebook wall directly in Skype
- Update your Facebook status
- Easily Like or comment on a Friend’s status
- Call your Facebook friends directly on their mobile or landlines

Skype to Facebook IM features
- See Facebook friends in your Skype contact list
- See when your Facebook friends are online
- Instant message with your Facebook friends direct from Skype

I had updated my Skype to the latest version and tested on the instant message feature with my Facebook friend and found out the instant message is not working properly. My friend can received my message but when my friend replied, I cannot see the message from my friend in the Skype but appeared in my Rockmelt. I would get this message in the Skype "Your friend is now offline. They may not have received this message" whereas my Facebook friend was online at that moment.

Meanwhile for the newsfeed feature, it is really interesting as I can check on my friends' post from my Skype and click "Like" or comment on my friends' post. I can even made a video call to my Facebook friend from the Skype.

Airtime Tax ~ What the hell..

What la with this country! Coming soon will have the Goods & Service Tax (GST) and now want us to pay for the Airtime tax whenever we reload on our prepaid number!

According to the Sun daily, prepaid mobile phone users will have to pay more for airtime next month as telecommunication companies are going ahead with a plan to pass on the 6% service tax to consumers despite opposition from several quarters.

It was reported earlier that the service tax will be implemented on Sept 1 but a source said the implementation date may not be the first of the month but sometime during the month.

Can we oppose on this plan?

Good Bye Steve Jobs & Thank You Very Much

Steve Jobs resigns as the Chief Executive Officer of the Apple. Tim Cook takes over as the CEO from the previous position of Chief Operating Officer.

I personally thanks to Steve Jobs for the amazing impact to the post PC era as well as the smartphone in the world. Apple has growth tremendously and has been reported to be wealthier than the U.S government.

With that, it marks the arrival of the new era at Apple. Let's us see how Tim Cook brings Apple with more new products in future.

Good news is Steve Jobs will still be around with Apple as the Chairman of the company's board.

7th Edition of Toyota Camry 2012

A new edition of the Toyota Camry for the year of 2012 has been revealed.

From my first glance on the images, I can see the new edition of the Toyota Camry 2012 is far away from the luxury &  executive car compare to the current edition of Toyota Camry.

From the comments I read through from the blog, many commented on this new edition looks like the Honda Civic. Frankly to say, although Toyota says that the new Camry’s form is elegantly simple but modern, emphasizing a wider, lower stance over the previous editions but from the images, I couldn't see the modern look for the exterior and interior of the car.

A big disappointment on my dream car, Toyota Camry. I was expecting a lot luxury and executive of Toyota Camry 2012 compare to previous editions.

Canon Camera "Gila-Gila" Sale!

Canon is having a "crazy" sale promotion from 27 August until 27 September 2011. Promising up to 30% discounts on selected models and while stock lasts to customers.

I like the poster of this promotion, it is very funny to see the family members tried to prevent their father from buying the Canon cameras. Although people might interpret it to other message such as "don't buy Canon cameras" yet it looks interesting poster there.

I wish Nikon would have such promotion then I can aim for getting a lens for my DSLR.

Arsenal 0 - 2 Liverpool

I watched this awesome Arsenal vs Liverpool game with Somas in Station 1 yesterday evening. First half was a great performance by Liverpool team with ball possession for the whole first half. Few great saves from both sides goalkeepers. Liverpool took control of the second half and scored two goals. One from the Arsenal player's own goal while another from the forwarder, Luis Suarez.

Just now when I was reading the online news portal, I was shocked to learn that this win was Liverpool first time in 11 years at Arsenal home ground.

iPad 3 Coming in Early 2012

While in Malaysia, we are still grabbing for iPad 2 and is always facing out-of stock everytime, there was a news reported from Mashable, Apple has begun trial production on iPad 3 which is scheduled to be launched in the early of 2012.

It looks really interesting as the life span for each generation of iPad has cut shorten and will be looking for a new generation after several months of the released of previous generation. For me who uses the first generation of iPad, I would feel myself outdated by next year when the iPad 3 releases.

I believe in the year of 2011, The Year of Copycats as claimed by Steve Jobs would be really interesting as the coming generation iPad would be better than other tablets in the market. As we can see at the moment, the closest competitor would be the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1, but for me as long as the Android Market couldn't bypass the AppStore, iPad would remain my first choice.

Cowboys & Aliens

Yesterday, I went to watch this movie, Cowboys & Aliens in Taiping Sentral's Big Cinemas together with my friends, Somas and Bala.

From the posters and trailers, this movie looks interesting and worth to watch. However, after been experienced for two hours inside the cinema, I felt this movie was below from my expectation and not worth for me to pay RM 11 for this movie.

A lesson to learn, make sure the posters and trailers would show the aliens as well rather than just having the cowboys.

DiGi Simple MasterCard

A new product line from DiGi.

DiGi Simple MasterCard is exactly similar to Debit Card offered by most banks in Malaysia. The difference of DiGi Simple MasterCard with other Debit Card is we no need to open a bank account as this is a prepaid card similarly to Tune-In Card. However, we need to top-up money into the card.

Some of the card benefits and the features :

Quite a good Merchant deals offered by Starbucks and TGV Cinemas.

myemail in Beta Opens For Sign-Ups

Do you still remember the controversial official email account for each Malaysian adult suggested by our Prime Minister in the mid of April this year?

Here is the news from The Star Online to remind you back on the news. It was a controversial as it was a considered as a waste on public fund although reports claimed the investment came from the Tricubes Bhd solely without any public fund. However, further reports shown each mail send to the users of myemail, Tricubes Bhd would charge the government agencies RM 0.50. Hence, it will be considered as a waste of public fund as well. Consider if I get an email through the myemail daily, which it means RM 0.50 would bill to government agencies daily. If 10 million Malaysians subscribe to this myemail, hence, Tricubes Bhd would bill RM 5 million in total to government agencies daily. Wow!

By the way, myemail is available for sign-up although it is still in beta stage.

A quick glance at the myemail page reveals a couple of new additions such as a shortcut to E-Services, a tab for Marketplace and a tamtam CRM.

A check on the registration page, it shows large fonts which is good for golden generation. It required several information such as Full Name (exactly from MyKad), MyKad Number, myemail id & password, additional security settings and alternative email address.

The myemail.my is encrypted with 128-bit encryption and uses TLS 1.0. Verified by Digisign Server ID. Which is considered as highly encrypted similarly to online banking sites.

I don't like the limited choices of myemail id which are based on my Full Name and are dotted for a space in between my name.
